Stairway
So, I’m in History of Rock, and tomorrow is the final. Today, we are talking about Led Zeppelin, listening to Stairway to Heaven. This song takes me pretty far back to my childhood, reminds me of the first time I heard it, I was playing with Lego’s under the ping-pong table in my basementat probably age 9. I couldn’t do anything other than sit there and listen. I was in some sort of trance, bound by Plant’s high register rock vocals.
Another memory that comes up is driving in Andy Holliday’s mom’s car with Andy and his parents. Stairway came on the radio, and Andy’s dad went to change the station halfway through, and his mom freaked out and said, “You can’t turn off Stairway to Heaven in the middle! That’s sacrelidge!”
Mostly, it reminds me of middle school dances, where it was usually the final song played. I remember not ever having enough courage to ask girls to dance, so I sat around and enjoyed the music, hoping that somebody (anybody) would come ask me to dance.
Now, I don’t have to worry about that. Every day, I realize how lucky I am to be with Emma. I’ve never felt so content or natural around anyone in my entire life. I love her.

you inspire nothing in me.
i guess this was my outlet for things that didn’t have any other place to go, but it turned into a cycle of reblogs and comic posts. i’ll keep my account to keep an infrequent eye on lulzy things others post.
time is budgeted, and you didn’t make the cut.
a metaphor for many people and things in my life, i think
LOL
What a weird thing to write to people you’re kind of friends with
indeed. <3 face. boo conor!! (just kidding, <3 also.)

I’m pretty sure if you entered my house (oh my gosh, I miss Benny Street) at all during the months of April or May and encountered me fucked up on some substance (which I’m pretty sure all of you did, probably numerous times, because I spent the last month of my college career fairly fucked up), I inevitably was like “Wanna see something AWESOME!?” and you were probably like “…again?”
I remember the exact occasion when Kaitlin told me that I HAD to see this video. It was glorious.

Since the majority of the people who might see this are still in college, I’m going to say this:
Get a job before you get out of college. Or prepare an excellent back up story. Because every. Fucking. Person. You will ever encounter post-graduation will immediately ask you the following things: 1. What your major was (legit) and 2. What you’re doing now (also legit, but annoying if you’re not doing anything).
And that’s where it should stop. But kids, if you are a graduate of an accredited university and you don’t have a job and completely miserable about it, it will NEVER end here. It will continue, with questions like, “Oh yeah, did you ever think about ______ or ______?”
Oh, really? REALLY? Have I ever thought about jobs that may or may not relate directly to my major? Have I? I mean, it’s not like it’s what I think about every fucking minute of every fucking day. For you, this is just something fun to think about for thirty seconds when you talk to me, but I live my fucking life and have to deal with this all the fucking time. I have thought about literally every fucking occupation you can imagine, buddy. You are not helping anything—if you want to help me, make me laugh, and if you can’t do that, at least fucking look at me and pay attention when you see the misery/hopelessness/tears welling up in my eyes when you’re talking to me about my life, and fucking stop it. Seriously.
Economic downturns affect my chances of getting the jobs that I want in theater. A lot. I’m scared. The first thing that goes when people have to cut back on leisure spending is the arts. Theater is one of the most expensive arts to frequent. No ticket sales = fewer shows to work on = fewer jobs. Eeeek.

After forming in Brooklyn in 2002, American Princes is now based out of Little Rock, Arkansas. I dig this song because (surprise surprise) it’s really catchy. This track can be found on their latest release, Other People which came out this past April on Yep Roc Records.
The American Princes have shared the stage with The Roots, The Flaming Lips, Mudhoney, the Hold Steady and Spoon, and they’re currently working on their follow up to Other People. Check out what NPR has to say about them, and let us know what you think in the comments.
I had heard these guys somewhere else, but I forgot about them. I like this song.

Wickedcoolkait [10:36 P.M.]: what would you name your band if you had one?
Scott 10:37 P.M.]: wow
Wickedcoolkait [10:37 P.M.]: (that’s an awesome response to that)
Scott [10:37 P.M.]: it would probably be an homage to some other musician
Wickedcoolkait [10:37 P.M.]: hmm
Wickedcoolkait [10:37 P.M.]: i see
Scott [10:38 P.M.]: but, i don’t know exactly what…like, if i name a band after you or your song, i better be prepared to talk about that in interviews, and i better make sure it’s someone I really like
Wickedcoolkait [10:39 P.M.]: right
Wickedcoolkait [10:39 P.M.]: i think i would want to name a band “hockessin”
Scott 10:39 P.M.]: ok
Wickedcoolkait [10:39 P.M.]: because no one that’s not from northern delaware would know what it was/how it is pronounced
scott [10:39 P.M.]: why? Scott[10:39 P.M.]: hah
Scott [10:39 P.M.]: ok
Wickedcoolkait [10:39 P.M.]: it’s a city in northern delaware
Wickedcoolkait [10:39 P.M.]: and everyone calls in hock-essin
Wickedcoolkait [10:40 P.M.]: but it’s pronounced ho-kessin
Scott [10:40 P.M.]: what the hell is with delaware, do they think just because they’re small they get to pronounce things however the hell they want?
Wickedcoolkait [10:40 P.M.]: hahaha
Wickedcoolkait [10:40 P.M.]: i know
Scott [10:40 P.M.]: new-ARK
Scott [10:40 P.M.]: why?
Wickedcoolkait [10:40 P.M.]: “lewes” is pronounced “lewis”, not lews
Wickedcoolkait [10:40 P.M.]: well you know scott
Wickedcoolkait [10:41 P.M.]: technically that’s probably how it should be pronounced
Wickedcoolkait [10:41 P.M.]: besides, who wants to be associated with newark, nj?
Scott [10:41 P.M.]: i was just about to say, i actually like saying Newark, DE much better than saying newark, nj
Scott [10:41 P.M.]: because i hate that state
Wickedcoolkait [10:42 P.M.]: OOH and fans of my band could get to be really annoying with people who were only kind of acquainted with it
Wickedcoolkait [10:42 P.M.]: “it’s ho-kessin, not hock-essin” then they could glance witheringly at them
Scott [10:42 P.M.]: hahah
Scott[10:43 P.M.]: yeah, that’s good
Scott [10:43 P.M.]: all we need is more self-righteous hipsters in this world
Wickedcoolkait [10:43 P.M.]: hahaha
Wickedcoolkait [10:44 P.M.]: well, it would also give some delawareans the chance to be self righteous
Wickedcoolkait [10:44 P.M.]: something that has probably never happened, ever
Scott [10:44 P.M.]: that’s probably trueWickedcoolkait [10:45 P.M.]: let’s be in a band! called hockessin!
WHAT A PERFECT IDEA
“Hockessin Proper” might be even better

The groove of such a song has never been duplicated. The funk is deep, and I would find it difficult to quit bouncing my head throughout. Take a break, excite your senses, jump around the room, and get excited for something.

1 year ago • 16 notesI’m doing this thing where I only listen to Canadian bands for a while. Because I like them, and I find people who have lived that far north charming.
Oh yeah. But I’m counting Washington State as a part of Canada, so um, there’s that.
Anyway. Recommendations welcome!
Not Canadian, but I’ve been listening to a lot of Joanna Newsom recently. Awesome.
